Legal Action

We filed a Constitutional Petition against the Seychelles Government, arguing that the Assomption Hotel development violates Seychellois’ constitutional right to a healthy environment.

It passed the opposition’s preliminary objections, and we’re awaiting a date for the official court hearing.

Our campaign triggered a National Inquiry into the Assomption Hotel lease and concluded in a 525-page report outlining institutional failings.

Key Findings:

  • The Executive (top of Government) interfered with its own officials to push the hotel through.

  • The environmental protection promises were broken over and over.

  • The island and its wildlife were put at risk before anyone studied what was there.

  • Aldabra Atoll, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was knowingly put in danger.

  • The inquiry did not receive the documents it needed to follow the money and complete it’s financial investigation.

“The commission finds that the development...has exposed a World Heritage site to a real and avoidable risk.”
